Starting and Stopping Server

For Windows 2000/XP

Use the Windows Start menu to start and stop server:
Start - (All) Programs - New Fire - Start Server
Start - (All) Programs - New Fire - Stop Server

For Windows NT4.0

Use the Windows Start menu to go to Programs directory:
Start - Programs - New Fire - Programs

You can also use Windows Explorer to go to the same directory under the installed directory (e.g. c:/newfire/bin).

Click startserver to start the server and stopserver to stop it.

How to Start Server at System Startup on Windows

You can used the Scheduled Tasks to start the server on system startup. Therefore you don't have to logon to the System and start the server every time, which kills the server upon logout.

Where is Scheduled Tasks?

The Scheduled Tasks user interface is accessible from the "My Computer" folder on the desktop.

If you don't have it, where to download Scheduled Tasks?

From the Internet Explorer, click Help - Product Updates (You must be on the internet to do so). You reached the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Component Download web page. Select Task Scheduler to download.

How to use Scheduled Tasks to start the server?

  1. Open Scheduled Tasks and click Add Scheduled Task to start the wizard.
  2. Use Browse... to locate the newfire/bin/startserver.bat application.
  3. Check to run when your computer starts option.
  4. Before Finish, check Open advanced properties of the task. From the task properties dialog, click the Settings tab to configure the your task completion options.

For UNIX

Open a console or terminal window, go to the directory <newfire>/bin. To start server, enter:

./startserver

Note: You may be required to be root to start server.

To stop server, enter:

./stopserver

The Internal Web Server

The default port number for the web server is 1000. If this port is used on your installed machine or you wish to change it, you can change it to another number (e.g. 80) by editing the file <newfire>tomcat/conf/server.xml.
